U.S. Air Force solar array project
The United States government has contracted with Springs Utilities for the provision of reliable electric power generation through the payment of an $18.3 million connect charge. As the provider of electric service to USAFA, Springs Utilities will design, build, own and operate a Solar Array that will generate renewable electricity for use by the Academy. The Solar Array will produce approximately 4 to 7 percent of the total power requirement for the Academy. This project is completely funded by the USAFA and will not impact Springs Utilities electric rates.

An artist rendering of a 4- to 5-megawatt solar array to be built by Colorado Springs Utilities at the U.S. Air Force Academy. The energy produced will provide 4 to 7 percent of the total power requirement for the Academy. The plant will be funded entirely with federal stimulus money provided to the Academy.
