Energy Efficiency Workshop: Chilled Water System Basics (Sept. 16, 2010)

When operated and maintained properly, central chilled water systems have unique features and benefits. This technical seminar will focus on ways to reduce energy use. Topics include:
- system design overview;
- chiller and overall system efficiency;
- pumping strategies;
- low "delta T" disease and cures; and
- maintenance practices & control strategies.
We hope you can join us. Register with Andrea Bridges (668-8227).
Presentations from past events
Energy Efficiency Workshop: Meeting Goals & Managing Investments (May 20, 2010)
Need help establishing energy efficiency and sustainability goals that align with your budget? In this session you’ll understand how to determine and balance your goals with investment requirements. From specific examples, you’ll learn the best ways to meet efficiency targets and identify the best returns. You’ll also learn how to define your program and sell it to your organization. See the presentation slides.
Commercial Water Efficiency - Indoor and Outdoor (April 15, 2010)
John McCallum and John Campagnola, from Rampart Supply, covered the best indoor conservation techniques in water design and engineering for commercial buildings. They reviewed design and retrofit options, typical cost savings for investments made, and provided success stories—new building and retrofit examples.
Dennis Slibsager, from Ewing Irrigation, discussed efficient irrigation products and conservation techniques and included water saving estimates showing the best value for your budget.
Scott Winter from Colorado Springs Utilities provided an overview of all water rebates available to our commercial and industrial customers.
Sustaining Sustainability (March 18, 2010)
At the annual Business Users Group meeting, our experts discussed strategies for balancing highly reliable energy service and keeping rates as low as possible while maintaining sustainable practices. Business customers received updates on local renewable energy projects, economic trends, proposed rate changes, and how we can get the most our of our existing plants and infrastructure. See the presentation slides.
Lighting and Energy System Basics (Jan. 22, 2010)
Guest speaker, Scott Harvey, P.E., Art of Engineering, described energy function and efficiency for lighting and general mechanical systems. Emphasis was on light fixture type and placement efficiencies and new lamp technology. Harvey reviewed the physical and performance characteristics of incandescent, fluorescent, HID, Induction, and LED light sources. He also discussed the comparative energy efficiency of a variety of facility mechanical systems. See the presentation slides.
