Local spending an investment in our community

Providing utility services to a community of our size requires a lot of work, as well as support from various
vendors. When that situation arises, we take every effort to keep as much of those services right here in our region.

It’s not an easy task. We must put all contracts up for bid and award them to the most-qualified, cost-conscious bidder – wherever the business might be located. And, many of the specialized products and
expertise needed to supply an energy and water utility are simply not available locally.

Still, our staff has awarded an average of $55 million to local contractors for each of the last three years.

The key is reaching out to the community. We work with local contractor associations to inform their members about our procurement process. We also host an annual workshop where businesses learn the ins and outs of our system and have the opportunity to meet one on one with our staff.

We also use the Rocky Mountain e-Procurement System, an online tool that makes it easy for businesses to access all contract opportunities.

We’re looking for business partners of all types – from janitorial work to conveyor belt repair. If you would like to learn more about future opportunities, visit our business site at csu.org.

This is a challenging time for all of us, but by matching up projects with qualified local contractors, we’re doing our part to help our community through this tough economy.
