| We believe that supporting the community helps us to be a better utilities provider. Our employees are committed to giving back to the community in many ways. VolunteeringOur employees made significant donations of their personal time in 2007, breaking all previous volunteer records: - More than 884 Springs Utilities employees, their friends and families, volunteered 7,250 hours on 125 community projects.
- Employees volunteered another 7,000 hours to community organizations as troop leaders, coaches, committee members, or as non-profit board members.
- The President’s Volunteer Service Award was presented to 26 employees for donating more than 100 hours in 2006 to nonprofit organizations.
- Employees volunteered over 422 hours at our local food bank.
- During the holidays, employees donated over 480 gifts to senior citizens and filled another 430 stockings with toys for less fortunate children in our community.
- We refurbished and donated about 180 used computers to local non-profits and educational institutions saving our land fill and helping organizations that help our citizens.
Utilities bill assistance- Project COPE (Citizens' Option to Provide Energy) helps customers experiencing emergency situations with utilities payments.
- 3,165 households received $655,000 to help pay for their utilities in 2007.
Education- We provided education to our community about utilities safety, the water cycle, the environment, and how to use resources wisely.
- More than 11,300 adults and children learned about electricity and natural gas safety through our presentations to local schools and organizations in 2007.
- More than 3,000 school children used educational kits developed by Springs Utilities to learn about renewable energy, energy efficiency and water conservation.
- Employees conducted presentations, talked to customers and participated at local events to share information on energy efficiency, water conservation and safety with more than 16,000 citizens.
Community commitmentIn 2007, we were a finalist for: - The Platts Global Energy Award in Community Development for our support of affordable housing.
- The Wildlife Habitat Council’s Community Partner of the Year Award for our partnership on a project for Fort Carson Army Base.
