Colorado Springs Utilities releases webisode series

Oct. 15, 2009

Colorado Springs Utilities' CEO Jerry Forte supports legislation that protects the environment. However, he speaks clearly about the flaws of the American Clean Energy and Security Act bill in a clip recently posted on YouTube™.

"We are looking for a bill that doesn't put an un-do burden on our customers." He says the current legislation could cause customer bills to significantly increase at a time when a record number of customers are having trouble paying their bills due to a weak economy.

Springs Utilities believes reducing carbon dioxide emissions is best achieved through the continued advancement of renewable energy options combined with the development of radical new emissions reduction technologies for fossil-fueled power plants.

Leading by example, the four-service municipal utility has had clean hydroelectric generation in their portfolio for more than a century. They are also investing in break-through technology that can efficiently and economically control emissions from coal-fired power plants.

Forte encourages customers to get involved in protecting the environment by saving energy using an array of tools they have developed to assist customers. Explanations for many of the tools offered and other environmentally-friendly programs they have implemented are available on the Colorado Springs Utilities YouTube(TM) channel.
