Save with CFLs

Jeff Rath, conservation specialist, discusses our CFL program

In the average Colorado home, lighting accounts for about 20% of the electric bill. We can save money and protect the environment by installing ENERGY STAR qualified lighting.

The easiest way to start saving energy is to change out the light bulbs in your current fixtures. If you are remodeling, building a new home, or just updating the look of a room, consider installing new ENERGY STAR qualified light fixtures.

Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs

An ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) will save about $30 over its lifetime and pay for itself in about 6 months. It uses 75 percent less energy and lasts about 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb.  Visit energystar.gov to learn more about CFLs including: color, bulb types, how they work, mercury facts and what works where.

Decorative Light Strings

If all decorative light strings sold in America this year were ENERGY STAR qualified, we would save over 2 billion kWh per year and reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to nearly 300,000 cars!

ENERGY STAR qualified decorative light strings — many which feature LED technology — consume 75% less energy than conventional incandescent lights strands.

Discounts are not available for holiday lights, however you can find ENERGY STAR qualified decorative lights at many of the following retailers.
