Want more from your windows? Ask for ENERGY STAR®. ENERGY STAR® qualified windows, doors and skylights reduce energy bills up to 24%, increase comfort, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes to achieve precisely the look you’re after.
This year we are offering window rebates on many different customer segments. Use the guide below to choose the correct rebate form for your needs.
Please include with your application:
1) receipt(s)
2) The ENERGY STAR® climate zone sticker and
3) The The National Fenestration Rating Council sticker
At the end of the application process you may upload or e-mail copies of these along with your application. You only need stickers for windows that are different sizes (i.e. 5 windows that are the same size require only one sticker, however, each window of varying size requires a sticker)
The example here is what you should see when you purchase your windows.
On the top you will see the map of the United States, this should be shaded completely because Colorado Springs falls into this ENERGY STAR® climate zone.
Below the map will be The National Fenestration Rating Council sticker. This is very important because it gives you the Energy Performance Rating. This includes:
U-Factor and
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC)
It is very important to know these as you fill out your rebate application.
Purchasing Tips
1) Determine your ENERGY STAR® Climate Zone.
2) Find a retailer or manufacturer. Find a manufacturer or retailer of ENERGY STAR qualified windows, doors, or skylights.
3) Look for the ENERGY STAR® label for your climate zone. All ENERGY STAR qualified products must display the ENERGY STAR® label. Check the label to make sure the product you are considering qualifies in your area. The ENERGY STAR® label appears on the product next to the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) label
4) Ask for ENERGY STAR when ordering. When you’re ordering in a showroom, make sure to ask for a product that qualifies for ENERGY STAR in your climate zone. You can choose ENERGY STAR qualified windows in a variety of framing materials to suit your needs.
5) Get a deal. In addition to the long-term energy savings you’ll enjoy, take advantage of financial incentives that lower your initial investment:
- Along with the rebate from Colorado Springs Utilities, claim up to $1,500 in federal tax credits for installing ENERGY STAR qualified windows, doors or skylights or making certain other energy efficiency improvements to your home.
Keep in mind that the cost of complete window replacement for the average home is $7,500-$10,000.* When you’re interviewing contractors, ask them to break down the price quote by labor and materials. ENERGY STAR qualified windows may cost more than non-qualified products, but the labor involved should be comparable for both.
* Based on Consumer Checkbook’s (June 2008) reported average product and installation cost for standard size, double-pane, vinyl, double-hung replacement windows with low-E, grids, and argon fill.
