On Oct. 6, Technical Services Supervisor and Wildland Fire Chief Mike Myers and Remote Energy Plan Operations Supervisor Justin Jack received the Good Neighbor Award from the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD).
The award recognizes our efforts to go above and beyond in assisting with the Technical Rescue Course hosted by the CSFD Heavy Rescue Program. In the award announcement, CSFD stated the course would not have been possible without Springs Utilities’ help.
“To receive this award, you need to be recognized from the line staff within CSFD. It’s really cool that the folks with the Heavy Rescue program took the time to recognize Justin and I for our efforts to help them,” Myers said. “Additionally, working with CSFD on training opportunities has been very beneficial to Springs Utilities as much as CSFD. By hosting their training within our facilities, we are allowing the CSFD personnel the opportunity to get the lay of the land of our facilities in case there is ever a need for their help during an emergency.”
Myers helped provide course participants with an indoor location to train on industrial rope rescue, confined space, and even establish a new contact within the Heavy Rescue Program for future trainings.
Jack provided the location for industrial rope rescue and confined space training. The location gave course instructors the ability to hold training during inclement weather which was very helpful. The power plant also provided a boiler for a real-life scenario confined-space drill.
This type of training would not have been possible without Colorado Springs Utilities' willingness to collaborate with the Fire Department.
