It’s Earth Month and we're working hard every day to reduce our impact on the environment, improve regional air quality and conserve resources for future generations. Our sustainable water and energy plans detail how we will provide reliable services for a growing population into the future.
Here are a few of the ways we work to be good stewards of the environment:
- We’re the first Colorado utility to buy responsibly sourced natural gas certified with low greenhouse gas emissions.
- Closing our coal-generated power plants will help reduce carbon emissions 80% by 2030.
- We’re adding a large-scale solar and battery storage project to power 55,000 homes a year.
- Our residential water use per person is one of the lowest along the Front Range. And, it’s decreased consistently, even as our population has grown.
- We developed an award-winning water recycling project to demonstrate water reuse for the future.
- We partner with the forest service and other agencies to reduce fire risk and support healthy forests in our watersheds.
- We relocated native trout species to protected streams and helped build a fish ladder on the Arkansas River for spawning.
