Over the next five years, we will have major investments on the horizon. These are needed to meet regulations, support growth and maintain reliability.
One major investment is an expanded wastewater system to meet the demands of growth within the city.
The Eastern Wastewater System Expansion consists of three large, complex projects that will provide the critical backbone needed to serve customers in a rapidly growing area in the city's eastern portion.
The project includes design and construction of two lift stations and18 miles of new pipelines that will help move waste from eastern Colorado Springs to an existing treatment plant in the city.
The current estimated cost of the first phase is $396 million. When complete, this expansion will serve up to 225,000 residents.
Charges paid by builders, along with wastewater base rates, will fund this phase. We’re proposing a wastewater base rate increase of 9% to be implemented over the next five years (2025-2029) to fund this and other necessary wastewater capital investments.
