We worked with the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center to find ways to reduce water waste at the facility.
For years, the center experienced clogged toilets. This issue led to unnecessary water waste. As part of our Business Custom Water Rebate, we offered $8,187 to help replace toilet flush valves with more efficient models designed to shut off automatically.
The change made an immediate impact on water use at the facility resulting in the following savings:
- In 2021 and 2022, staff replaced flush valves on 213 toilets and 36 urinals.
- This significantly decreased water waste and reduced the number of plugged toilets.
- Total estimated water savings for this replacement project was 1.78 million gallons
El Paso County said it will use the rebate to fund additional water-saving projects in the future.
“We have noticed a decrease in our water and sewer bill. The rebate from this project will be rolled into the next water conservation project, which includes replacing valves on 121 sinks. The estimated savings for this project are 583,806 gallons per year (1.8 acre-feet). We hope to see additional water savings.”
