In the rapidly changing energy industry, managing customer rates and standing still are not compatible. Like other energy providers around the nation, we believe it’s better for you if we’re ahead of the technological and regulatory curve, rather than holding onto the past and waiting for far more costly prescribed solutions.
This philosophy is why we’re excited that the American Public Power Association (APPA) has designated us as a Smart Energy Provider, joining 65 other public power providers around the United States. The two-year designation is the second consecutive one we’ve received and demonstrates our commitment to energy efficiency, advancements in energy generation and environmental protection.
What sets us apart?
APPA runs the selection process through a panel of industry leaders from public powers nationwide. Applications go through a yearlong process before Smart Energy Provider designations are given.
We were selected for the designation based on our commitment to:
- Smart energy goals.
- Emerging technologies focused on energy efficiency such as recaptured biogas, expansion of our fiber optic network and battery storage projects.
- Customer assistance programs such as the Home Efficiency Assistance Program (HEAP).
- Energy-related rebates for residential and business customers to include Beneficial Electrification incentives for heat pump technology for HVAC systems and water heaters.
- Smart thermostat rebates and Peak Energy Rewards
- Time of Use rate options.
- Education and outreach programs.
- Interruptible customer rates/contracts for business customers.
- Energy audits for business customers.
- Electric vehicle programs such as Springs Utilities-owned public charging station
These are just some of the highlights from our application for the Smart Energy Provider designation. For more ways we can help you and the community be smarter with energy, please review our website.
