Delivering safe and reliable natural gas service to our community requires extensive planning and skilled employees, as well as a few short-term inconveniences such as noise and occasional traffic impacts.

All of those elements are coming together as part of the aptly-named Mesa to Manitou Project – an effort to renew five miles of high priority, 10” diameter natural gas distribution main from Mesa Road to Manitou Springs.

For the next several months, the project will travel through busy neighborhoods, hillside landscapes and the city’s west side streets. Because the existing main has been in operation for several decades, deterioration and corrosion issues make this project a priority.

The current phase of Mesa to Manitou started on Jan. 29 and is proceeding down Fontmore Road through April. If you live in these neighborhoods or travel through these areas, expect some lane closures, delays and occasional noise. Our employees and contractors are committed to working with impacted areas to minimize disruptions as much as possible.

The Mesa to Manitou project is part of the Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP), a $9 million annual investment to assess, upgrade and protect the hundreds of miles of pipes that deliver natural gas to homes and businesses. Projects like Mesa to Manitou help ensure the overall safety, efficiency and longevity of the gas distribution system for years to come.
