Mighty team helps local families

Once a month, a meeting of compassionate hearts and sharp minds occurs in Colorado Springs. The small group does its best to make a difference – often unseen – in our community with limited resources.

Their hearts break as they tell stories of job loss, evictions and illness. But hearts are soon healed as the group rallies together to find assistance programs offered by their agencies to help these families get back on their feet. Project COPE, our own utilities assistance program, is one such program.

Due to COVID, the monthly Project COPE partner agency meeting is now virtual. One member of the team, whose office doubles as a food and clothing pantry, joins the call. As the meeting proceeds, in the background, we see her clients picking their next meal from the shelves. Another member calls in from a local high school. Many on this team are just steps away from the reality of poverty, fighting against it day in and day out.

We are proud to work with these Project COPE partner agencies every day.

The Project COPE program is one of the many arrows these agencies have in their community assistance quiver. They work together to find ways to provide rental support, utilities assistance, back-to-school backpacks, bus passes, medical care and more. These agencies are on the front lines every day, helping families through challenging situations.

Through our ten partner agencies, we anticipate Project COPE will distribute close to $1,000,000 in utilities assistance to nearly 1,500 families this year.
