We recently partnered with Aurora Water to reconnect a section of the Arkansas River, benefiting water customers, rafters and recreationalists.

The Homestake Arkansas River Diversion project delivers Eagle River Basin water through Homestake, Turquoise and Twin Lakes reservoirs to Colorado Springs and Aurora.

The well-planned project redesigned a section of the river between Granite and Buena Vista, allowing boaters and fish to now move through this previously unnavigable stretch of river.

“The project is a win for utility customers because it retains a vital Homestake system diversion and flood control point,” said Keith Riley, General Manager of Operations.

“It’s a win for rafters because the boat chute makes that area navigable again,” he added, “and it’s a win for the environment because trout can now spawn upstream using the fish passage.”

The project was completed in collaboration with the Colorado Water Conservation Board, the Pueblo Board of Water Works, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area.
