Our new fiber network will enhance utility operations, allowing us to better serve customers and meet the needs of our thriving community. Once complete, Colorado Springs will be one of the best-connected cities in the country. The investment in this infrastructure will support long-term operational needs and sustainable energy goals.
We’re building this network in a way that significantly offsets costs by leasing extra capacity to partners like fiber internet provider, Ting Internet.

Fiber network construction
Active construction is underway in the area of the map shaded in blue. Construction in the area shaded in gray is currently on hold.
What to expect during underground construction
Most of the construction of this network will utilize underground boring. Generally, residents can expect the following sequence of work:
Pre-construction
Residents will receive a door hanger letting them know that construction will begin within the week. To avoid damaging existing utility infrastructure, utilities will be located with water-based paint and flags. This paint is designed to be temporary and will fade with time and exposure to the elements.
Underground drilling
Constructions crews excavate and utilize directional drilling to lay conduit that will contain fiber technology. This work will occur in the utility right of way and easements. Residents can expect construction crews with heavy equipment (vac trucks, drills, water trucks, etc.) on trucks and trailers in the area. Traffic may be disrupted, and residents might be asked to move their vehicles to prevent being blocked in.
Installation of utility structures and fiber placement
Utility structures that contain fiber technology will be placed in easements. Then fiber will be installed the underground conduit and structures.
Repair and Restoration
Contractors will restore disturbed landscaping, irrigation, and hard surfaces. Full restoration of vegetation and irritation can only be completed in warm weather months.
What to expect during aerial installations
Fiber optic cable installation may occur on utility poles in your area. Utility poles are in easement areas, typically in alleyways.
- Installation work will involve specialized equipment, including bucket trucks, and may require temporary access to backyard areas.
- Our contractor will attempt to contact you directly if backyard access is needed.
- Estimated Duration: installation on utility poles is expected to take approximately 1-2 days per property.
- There may be temporary noise and minor disruptions during the installation process.
- Access may be temporarily restricted while work is being performed in easement areas. This may include temporary alley closures.
