Sustainable Energy Plan

We’re working to reduce our carbon footprint by 80% by 2030, all while maintaining our industry-leading reliability and competitive rates.

To meet the needs of our customers and deliver on this ambitious goal, we developed our Sustainable Energy Plan.

This comprehensive plan will help us create a cleaner, sustainable Pikes Peak region through industry-leading reliability and resiliency.

Through our Sustainable Energy Plan, we will:

  • Maintain safe and dependable energy you can trust. 
  • Responsibly manage our costs and support a strong economy.
  • Minimize impacts to our environment through responsible use of natural resources. 
  • Build dynamic relationships with our customers so they can make the best choices to power their lives. 

As part of this plan, we intend to make carbon-free energy more than 60% of our portfolio by 2030. We will reach this milestone by taking the following steps:

  • Continue to add utility-scale solar to our energy portfolio
  • Expand our supply of wind-generated electricity 
  • Increase battery energy storage options to ensure reliability
  • Retire all coal generated plants

Air quality and emissions reduction

Our emissions from generating electricity are already lower today than ever before.

For decades we have worked with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and other local stakeholders to improve our air quality and comply with regulations.

We meet air quality expectations through effective operations and maintenance, pollution controls, fuel selection and renewable energy.

We are committed to continuing to implement new technologies aimed at reducing our emissions.
