Significant industrial users are required by the Code of Federal Regulations to have a wastewater discharge permit for their process effluent.
We are the local control authority that issues wastewater discharge permits. Specific manufacturing, production and fabrication processes are regulated and will be permitted, inspected and monitored. New businesses to the Colorado Springs area with certain process activities must complete a questionnaire to help us determine the appropriate regulated category.
The applicable federal category includes the maximum allowable discharge limits for the process wastewater discharge. Local limits also apply to the process effluent, contact the Industrial Pretreatment Section for a copy of the Wastewater Treatment Code. An updated permit application must be completed annually by each permitted industry to assure that all changes and additions to the regulated processes are reported.
Permitted industries must perform sampling and analysis of the process effluent. Chemical analyses must be performed by EPA approved methods and the monitoring results will be sent to the Industrial Pretreatment Section. Parameters to be analyzed are outlined in the wastewater discharge permit.
