Silver source control program

The Silver Source Control Program began in 1994 for the purpose of reducing the total silver loading at our Las Vegas Street Wastewater Treatment Plant. The program underwent a revision in 2019.

Local businesses conducting any type of photo processing or X-ray processing are included in the program. A questionnaire must be completed if your business uses photochemicals. Please refer to the Policies & Procedures Manual, or contact us if you have questions about the program.

Businesses affected by the program fall into two classifications.

  1. Silver Waste Generating Dischargers
Dischargers treat waste silver-rich photochemical solutions and discharge the treated wastewater to the publicly owned treatment works (POTW). Discharger requirements include installation of wastewater treatment equipment, implementation of best management practices, development of an Operations & Maintenance Plan, record-keeping and submittal of a compliance certification. We issue them a Notice of Coverage.
  2. Silver Waste Generating Non-Dischargers
Non-Dischargers generate but do not treat or discharge silver-rich photochemical solutions to the POTW. Instead, the solutions are collected for off-site disposal or recovery. Non-Discharger requirements include development of an Operations & Maintenance Plan, record-keeping and submittal of a one-time compliance certification. We issue them a Notice of Exemption.

Submit required documentation to our Industrial Pretreatment Program.
