Wastewater service

The maintenance and operation of wastewater infrastructure is a vital service to our community that protects public health and our water supplies.

We take pride in owning one of the largest wastewater systems in the state, safely handling and treating an average of 37 million gallons daily.

We will start a major expansion of our wastewater system beginning in 2025 to meet future needs as our city continues to expand to the east. This expansion will ensure safe and reliable wastewater service for years to come.

Prevent wastewater backups

Most wastewater backups occur from blockages in private lines? With your everyday actions, you can prevent expensive problems with your wastewater line and help our system stay reliable.

  • Did you know that so-called “flushable” wipes aren’t flushable at all? Stick to toilet paper and avoid flushing wipes to prevent big problems.

  • Properly dispose of fat, oil and grease when cooking. Never pour it down the drain, it can harden and cause serious problems in our wastewater system.

Wastewater system plan

The Wastewater System Plan is a document that evaluates all parts of our wastewater system, which includes our collection, conveyance and resource recovery infrastructure. This document helps us plan and prioritize projects to ensure reliable and safe service for our customers.

The plan includes recommendations for projects and programs based on short-term and long-term needs. A key portion of the plan determines how much our wastewater system and its major components can handle now and into the future. This assessment guides our decisions on where to invest to improve the system.

Industrial pretreatment programs

Wastewater from some industrial and commercial sources can contain higher levels of contaminants, which can affect water quality or potentially damage infrastructure.

From dentist offices and car washes to large-scale manufacturing facilities, our industrial pretreatment programs fit the needs of local businesses while protecting our infrastructure and the environment.
