Fluoride is a natural compound found in many places, including soil, food, plants, animals and the human body. We don’t add it to our water because it's already abundant in our Pikes Peak water sources. We blend these local supplies with the water we import from the Continental Divide to reduce concentrations to recommended levels.

Fluoride is essential to the human body for normal development and growth, especially in the formation of healthy bones and teeth. Extensive independent testing shows that fluoride, when in drinking water naturally or when added, greatly reduces the occurrence of tooth decay by strengthening the tooth enamel and inhibiting the formation of acids that attack the tooth surface.

Since we obtain water from multiple sources, the amount of fluoride in your drinking water varies depending on the specific source of supply to your residence or business. You can use our interactive fluoride map to input your address and find out how much is in your water.

You can then consult with your dentist and/or doctor to see if it’s an adequate amount.  To learn more about our testing for fluoride and other compounds in your water, see our annual water quality report

Thank you to the Colorado Springs Dental Society for its valuable input and support.

*Fluoride values are updated annually using a five-year rolling average.
