Munro's Globemallow
Munroe's globemallow is a tough, native perennial. The silvery-green leaves grow as a mound.
In mid-summer, flowering stalks appear on the plant, with pretty orange flowers with yellow centers similar to those on hollyhock.
Munroe's globemallow is incredibly resilient, and can work well in sunny areas that get very little extra water. If it gets too much shade or water, it will flop.

Performance
Munroe's globe mallow has grown where other plants have perished. At the Xeriscape Garden, there are several plants located in an outlying area where they get very little extra water.
Like most native plants, its performance has been variable. Some plants have flowered profusely on upright stalks, while others bloom only briefly on stalks that have flopped. It has, however, survived in a spot where we couldn't get anything else to grow.
It's worth trying in extremely hot, sunny, low-water areas.
Maintenance
Since this is a long-blooming plant, removing the spent flowers is not very practical. At the Xeriscape Garden, we cut the entire plant to ground level in winter or early spring. No other maintenance is generally needed. It will flop if it gets too much water or shade.
