Purple Sensation Allium
Purple Sensation allium is a very easy ornamental onion to grow. In mid-summer, spheres of rich purple flowers, each about the size of a tennis ball, bloom on top of strong stalks. The flowers are very uniform, spherical, and tidy-looking.
The leaves are hardly noticeable, so they work well planted behind other perennials with more attractive leaves.
Plant in masses of 10 or more for a striking visual effect.

Performance
Purple Senstation allium has performed very well at the Water Wise Demonstration Garden. It tolerates close crowding from other perennial flowers.
It is one of the few bulbs that the voles, rabbits, and deer leave alone. Plant it among other plants with beautiful leaves since only the flowers have ornamental value.
Maintenance
After blooming, the flower, leaves and stem will go dormant. Cut back to ground level after the seedhead and stalk turn brown in mid summer. The seedhead can be used in dried arrangements or crafts.
