Shadblow Serviceberry

Shadblow serviceberry is deciduous shrub or small tree with an upright, multi-stemmed shape.

In spring, small white flowers appear in drooping clusters before the leaves emerge. The mature black fruit is very attractive to wildlife, especially birds. The leaves turn a bright orange-red in fall.

Native to the eastern US, nursery professionals have developed cultivars with numerous flowers in spring and brilliant fall leaf color.

This hardy shrub grows slowly and has a slight suckering habit. Requires more irrigation than Saskatoon serviceberry, but has a more upright, regular shape.
