Southern Charm Mullein
Southern charm mullein is a flowering plant that lives for two years. The first growing season, it grows a low mound of long, oval, dark green leaves. The second growing season, it produces several upright flowering stems. The stems hold many five-petaled flowers in pastel shades of peach or pink. After flowering, the plants usually die.
If the seeds are left on the plant to mature, they can disperse and germinate the following year.

Performance
Southern charm mullein has been a charming plant at the Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. It is smaller than other ornamental mulleins. Also, it has dark green leaves compared to the silver leaves of most mulleins. In addition, the flowers are a pretty pastel pink or peach, not yellow.
It has reseeded only moderately, making it a nice surprise when a new plant appears.
Maintenance
Thin seedlings as needed. After flowering, remove the plant when it dies.
