One-seed Juniper
One-seed juniper is a native evergreen shrub or multi-stemmed tree commonly found in desert grassland or pinyon-juniper forests. It gets its name from the fact that its "berries" have only one seed while the "berries" of Rocky Mountain juniper have one to three seeds each.
It is extremely drought tolerant and slow growing. One-seed juniper is well known for its ability to stop growing and survived extended droughts, then resume growth when moisture returns.
Although sometimes difficult to find in nurseries, it can make an excellent evergreen tree for low water landscapes.
