Trumpet vine is a vigorous, woody, clinging vine that attaches itself to structures using aerial rootlets.
Large, tubular, bright orange flowers bloom throughout the summer and are followed by long, bean-like seed pods. The attractive compound leaves are dark shiny green.
Trumpet vine is a good option for a vine to grow on a fence or screen. It also attracts hummingbirds. Plant in a protected location for best success.

Performance
Trumpet vine has been a vigorous grower at the Water Wise Demonstration Garden. It has been virtually trouble-free, just needing pruning in the spring to cut out the dead parts. It needs a sturdy structure to support it and a warm, protected location to flower.
Maintenance
Trumpet vine will die back part way over the winter. Wait until the leaves emerge in spring, then trim off the dead portions. It grows easily from seed, so pull out any undesired seedlings.
